We arrived at Yosemite National Park mid-morning to learn that visiting a popular National Park on a Saturday in July isn’t the best move. Despite the crowds, Chip and I were able to navigate to the Visitor Center (a metropolis of sorts), choose a hike, and stamp our NPS Passports. Chip says that Yosemite is like downtown Manhattan without the buildings on New Year’s Eve. The hike we chose was a highlight as it allowed us to navigate away from the busy center of the park and enjoy the impressive rock faces and steep cliffs. I was hoping to spot a rock climber as we walked along, but instead I enjoyed watching a fly fisherman navigate one of the many creeks that run through the Yosemite Valley. We hope to visit Yosemite again one day to spend more time exploring and hiking during the off season!

Our trip to Lassen was short but sweet. A mini Yellowstone hidden away in California, Lassen Volcanic Park is home to four different types of volcanoes, mud pots, fumaroles, and the delightful smell of sulfurous gasses. I enjoyed brainstorming future lessons as we traveled from view point to view point and Chip kindly photographed different information boards to help me remember our trip here. Before heading towards Los Angeles for the night Chip taught me how to skip stones again on the shore of Lake Helen. I’m not sure what was more impressive his seven or eight skips or my one giant “sploosh” of the biggest stone I could find.
