Day 11: Moose Spotting at Grand Teton National Park
Hello again! Although it has been a few days since our last post let me assure you that we are not still traveling to our next destination. While I tend to vary my speed from tortoise to hare in a matter of seconds while I am driving, we did safely land in Grand Teton National park following our Yellowstone adventure.
Leaving Yellowstone was a sad moment for both Chip and I as we were anxiously waiting to spot a Grizzly Bear or a Moose as we hiked and drove about the park, however, the Grand Tetons didn’t disappoint upon our arrival. On our first night as we were driving to a campground within the park we spotted a family of three moose gathered near a pond. It was such an exciting moment as we have learned that moose have been increasingly hard to find in the area from annual Yellowstone visitors. The following morning our adventure continued as we spent time exploring two glacier fed lakes on a “short hike” (Chip would like it to be noted that the hike was anything but “short and easy” as the ranger stated). Throughout the trip Chip and I have been going out of our way to hold conversation with people getting out of cars with license plates from our native states of Maryland and New Jersey, which is always a nice connection to home and an opportunity to share some state pride. Things got weird however though, on the Taggart Lake trail when Chip ran into a middle school classmate 2,116.1 miles away from home, only proving how small the world really is.
As the saying goes, “We aren’t here for a long time, we’re here for a good time,” Grand Teton National park was overall a surprising, delightful, and slightly tiring visit.
