Day 4: No Pretzels yet, but West of the Mississippi

Late this afternoon we drove across the great Mississippi River, well actually Michelle drove... over a bridge too so things are getting serious. Our first stop upon entering Iowa (also known to some as Heaven [note foreshadowing]) was at the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. Riveting name, I know, but as a matter of fact it was absolutely fascinating display off the history, wildlife and all the Mississippi River has to offer. The aquarium boasted an impressive student section in which sixth grade science teacher Ms. Clark spent a decent amount of her time. Additionally there was a vast array of wildlife including Snapping Turtles, Alligator Gar, and crawfish (not all in the touch tank, no worries!) Outside in the port there was an early 20th century dredging boat that was fully open to the public and provided some great insight into the maintenance of such an important waterway!
